Causes and Treatment of Chronic Diseases

Certified by the Singapore Ministry of Health as a family physician, Dr. Chua Tee Lian has over 30 years of experience in health care services. Being the director and clinic manager at C & K Family clinic since 2000, Dr. Chua Tee Lian provides a wide range of healthcare services such as treating chronic illnesses.

Chronic diseases usually develop over a long period. Some of the major causes of chronic conditions include poor nutrition, high alcohol consumption, smoking, and not being physically fit.

Examples of chronic conditions are diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Although these conditions cannot be cured, several healthy lifestyle behaviors can help control these illnesses.

A healthy lifestyle should comprise a good balance between carbs, fat, and proteins. The diet should also have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Adequate physical activities should be practiced as a way of maintaining a healthy weight. Sufficient sleep is important, as poor sleeping habits can lead to health issues such as high-stress levels. 7-9 hours each night is generally ideal. Additionally, good mental health helps maintain robust immune systems, making a person less vulnerable to chronic conditions.
